Dr. Gusztáv Bacher (Partner) is a Hungarian attorney admitted to the Budapest Bar Association. He joined Szecskay Attorneys at Law in 1999.
Dr. Bacher currently specializes in civil, competition, advertising and IP law and litigation.
He received his JD, summa cum laude, from Eötvös Loránd Faculty of State and Legal Science in 1998. He studied at the Faculty of Law in Vienna in 1997 and participated in the Post-Graduate Course on International Trade Law organized by the Asser Instituut at The Hague in 1999. He received his Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in International Business Law at the Central European University (CEU) in 2001. In 2010, Dr. Bacher participated in a multiregional professional exchange program (International Visitor Leadership Program - IVLP) organized and funded by the U.S. Department of State Office.
Dr. Bacher is external lecturer at the Eötvös Loránd Faculty of State and Legal Science in the Department of Civil Law. In 2012, Dr. Bacher have served as President of the International League of Competition Law (LIDC) between 2012 and 2014, after being Secretary General (2007-2010) and First Vice President (2010-2012). In 2011, he became the Chairman of the Ethics Commission of the Hungarian Advertising Association. Furthermore, he is Chairman of the Anti-illicit Trade (Intellectual Property Rights) Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hungary and is a member of the Presidium of the Intellectual Property Expert Committee and Copyright Expert Committee attached to the Hungarian Patent Office, and of the board of the Hungarian Association for the Protection of Industrial Property and Copyright (MIE). He is Secretary General of the Hungarian Group of the AIPPI.
In 2015 he was presented with the "Eötvös Award" by the Budapest Bar Association.
Dr. Bacher has published various publications in the fields of intellectual property, competition law, and advertising law, co-author of commentaries, and was head of several working groups which prepare national reports for AIPPI and LIDC.
He is fluent in German and English.
