István Szente is the Director General of the Hungarian Authority for Consumer Protection since November, 2014. He graduated from Pázmány Péter Catholic University Faculty of Law and has been working in the field of consumer protection since the very beginning of his professional career. After graduation he had started to work at a regional consumer protection inspectorate as legal officer. Having gained significant experience as law enforcer and vested with comprehensive knowledge about the practical side of consumer protection inspections, he moved to the Hungarian Authority for Consumer Protection in 2011 as legal expert. During the years he took care of widening his knowledge on market surveillance and product safety legislation on national and EU level as well. His commitment and interest in market surveillance matters paved the road to be appointed as the Deputy Head of the Department for Market Surveillance, where beside his heavy contribution to the implementation process of EU market surveillance legislation, he started to improve his leadership skills. Now acting as the head of the Hungarian Authority for Consumer Protection he makes profit of his widespread knowledge that had been gained throughout the years spent in the field of consumer protection as enforcer, legal expert and professional leader.
