Veronica Manfredi is the Head of the Consumer and Marketing Law Unit in DG Justice and Consumers, which oversees the effective implementation of key Directives building up the EU consumer acquis, such as the Unfair Commercial Practices and the Misleading and Comparative Advertising Directives, the recent Consumer Rights Directive, the Directive on Unfair Consumer Contract Terms, the Timeshare Directive and the newly revised Package Travel Directive.

Her Unit has the goal to guarantee an adequate representation of consumer interests within most of the 10 Political Priorities of President Juncker. As a matter of fact, the Unit contributes, directly or indirectly, to the policy work aimed at promoting cross-cutting initiatives such as the Digital Single Market, the Internal Market Strategy, the Circular Economy, the Energy Union and the Capital Markets Union. Moreover, the Unit provides legal advice for a stepped up enforcement of the EU consumer acquis across the EU and internationally; it has established a close cooperation with other International Organizations (i.e. OECD, UNWTO) in order to strengthen EU's global role. 

On May 25th 2016, the Consumer and Marketing Law produced, within the e-commerce package, a revised Guidance on the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, which has clarified the applicability of this important and cross-sectorial Directive to the digital world, including on-line intermediaries.

On May 29th 2017, the Fitness Check Report on 6 key Directives of EU Consumer and Marketing Law and the Evaluation Report on the Consumer Rights Directive, both produced by the Unit, were presented at the Competitiveness Council by Commissioner Jourovà. Their findings will be key for future EC and EU actions to ensure a high level of consumer protection fit for the digital age too.
